KNWR - Alaska Range - Muzzleloader

Koyukuk National Wildlife Refuge (KNWR)

Our KNWR moose hunt is by drawing permit only. The drawing application period is the month of November and results are typically released by mid-February. Prospective hunters must have a guide-client agreement on file with the State of Alaska Department of Fish & Game before their drawing application will be processed. Interested hunters should contact us early to ensure that the proper paperwork is completed in time for the drawing.

Hunt Dates

Hunt 1: September 5 - 14
Hunt 2: September 16 - 25

Availability

Currently taking bookings for 2008.

What to expect

August and September make up Alaska’s rainy season. Hunters should be prepared for rain. Hunters in the KNWR should also be prepared for thick gnats and mosquitoes and should bring bug nets to cover their faces.

The area is a true refuge. Our mandate is to not "leave a footprint." Our camps consist of wall tents with wood burning stoves, free standing backpack tents, or sleeping in boats.

The hunter may take one hindquarter and the backstraps from his/her moose. The rest of the meat will be donated to the local residents.

Virgil (left) and Mark Cuppetilli. The moose,
measuring 75 6/8, was taken in the KNWR.
It is #50 for Boone and Crockett.

Transportation

We use boats to get around, but most hunting is done on land (unless hunter has a disability that precludes this).
